I know it’s a long season and week 1 means next-to-nothing, but seeing the Rams get whooped just reminded me of their opening last year in the playoffs – they beat up on the Rams late in the season last year and would have so again. I just don’t buy that Stafford is an elite QB and I don’t think their D is as good and it looks like they’ve lost talent in a few areas. TB seems bound for a letdown, especially if their interior OL doesn’t play well, with pressure in Brady’s face. SF still looms large but Lance didn’t impress me at all in the preseason game (he seems to be in the Love category of talent). To me, this just looks like about as open an NFC as I can remember.

Imagine if GB gets to the SB and…loses. Not sure if I’d prefer that or them just missing the playoffs altogether….

Like the last two years, injuries will play a huge role. If they stay largely healthy and have Bakh and Jenkins through the playoffs….I don’t know, I think they have a shot. Other than the tackles it’s all about the two rookied WRs growing up quick.

Michael – you were very critical of Gute early on in his tenure. You seem to have backed off a little bit the last year or so. Curious how you would rate the job he’s doing now compared to the first few years?

This absolutely has to be the year for GB. I’m not saying that they’ll win 13 games again, but it could be a team better set up to advance through the NFC playoffs. As far as talent goes only Philly can rival the number of blue chip players, but they still have a major question mark at QB. The rest of the NFC seems weak and diluted. Maybe MN takes a big jump forward?

I don’t care if the Packers go 15-2 or 9-8 as long as they make the playoffs. As we’ve found out the past two years, playing at home in January means nothing. In fact, Rodgers would probably be better off on the road. He looked like Favre in 2007 against the 49ers.
